The soundtracks for my Saturdays lately vacillate between Bootie mashups https://www.twitch.tv/bootiemashup and DJ MeltingGIrl. https://www.twitch.tv/djmeltinggirl out back at the bar with the dogs, maybe a fire pit but always heat, and some visits from Jenny Bird.. and I’ve been reading books a lot.
If you remember reading books, those are well spent hours with you and that book, that paper thing with words and stories in your hand there you turn the pages and think about what you just read, that isn’t your phone or ipad or whatever electronic device swiping up or down barely leaving a trace on your brain, where you can put the book down, opened at the crease or dogleg bent to keep your place, down to go grab some food or a beverage then pull it back into your face a keep reading it. I think overall, GenX was the last generation to remember before and after digital all encompassing allure. I’m sure gens after had reading lists, but all we had as kids were books.
My old glasses were really smudged and I didn’t realize how non sharp the words had become, like the first time I needed glasses and found myself not reading for a bit until I got eyeglasses finally and was like fuck.. this is something I need to remember. Your stupid eyes wear out and you need to keep giving them help to read or you might just stop because you can’t deal with the fact that you’re getting older.
Jenny got me some new Peepers. The world is sharp again and those books are tasty. I love reading for a few hours before bed and dreaming in the land of the book I was living in.. So much better than fever dreams of prepping for the exPrez tweets inciting some invasion of Oakland where all the guns were ready.. or the hopeless tv bullshit narrative that damped into the nighttime dream dimension to fight fight fight.. it was so unsettling waking up to that. No tweets from a dumbass. Drump has no power any more. Adults are in charge and vaccines are on the way.
Yea, the virus is still there, but I don’t see apocalypse because the people who want to will that into existence are also no longer in power. I can just read a fucking book before bed, wake up, and write my own book as I see it unfolding. It’s kind of refreshing, this time alive, to have gone through so much bullshit, an attempt to overthrow our country, fascism rising as the American thing, a virus unchecked to kill us off, and being able to take a breath, knowing we probably have another at least 2 years before our country could bend back into the darkness and it has any power over us, and until then I’ll just read more books and write a few before this is done.
