  • John, here is my first comment..the blog is so intensely written and
thoughtful that I will probably have many comments.
  • “I like to think we are all at first beckoned by the Siren’s call of
one of our more eccentric friend’s insistent beseechings of “You GOTTA
check it out”. At the moment you make that preliminal decision to
depart and traipse to some god forsaken dry lake bed of unforeseen
consequence, the ritual of initiation begins..” Mos
  • yes, my experience is that Burning Man starts way before the event,
and every moment of planning, thinking, frustration disappointment
excitement is part of it..and I love the compression of all life’s
experience that seems to occur around it….and in the word’s of
Ladybee who turned to a frustrated boyfriend who was feeling
neglected…”hey Its Burning Man!” which I interpreted as “create
    your own experience”.

  • Wow I needed this right now! I already feel the stress of the pre-burn piling up and this article reminded me of all the beautiful dusty people waiting for me

  • I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO READY for it all- a virgin once again.
“Being a relative late comer and having arrived in a very Nebulous year, the longer I attend the less of a late bloomer I become and the more I appreciate the wild wind up to leaving for Black Rock City. But I remember being a tender neophyte full of anticipation. A veritable pre-initiate.”
  • Bring it on and thank you for your expression. I feel like I was reading my dream.

  • Your writing is fabulous! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO READY for my first burn. Many friends have said, “You have to go”. I have been preparing for MY TIME> and now it is. Your words here feel like my anticipating dream. I look forward to the exploration, participation, and being freely out of the box for a week; down and dirty as it may be. Let the peaceful warriors rule, the the sirens call the nymphs provide, the goddesses nurture and the man rise and fall. It has been, is and will be a rite of passage. Yes.

  • “Oh My God, there is an entire City of people who relate to me, who I can learn from, who don’t judge me. Here I’m just another freak, another dreamer, another person who sees the big picture outside the small pond.”
  • Amen!

  • Superb article! Some very good points made. BM is the biggest party in the world but it’s so much more than that. It is a truly transformative event and I am hugely looking forwad to coming home in a few weeks time:)

  • Wow! Reading that has brought a tear to my eye. Its my 1st burn and I’m already super excited, but the last paragraph just sums up how I feel right now. Small mentality town and waiting to get out, sick of feeling like the odd one out and awaiting to meet kindred spirits. Im so happy to be finally coming home and making my right of passage :)

  • Ritual needs a structure, but magic happens when the unexpected transcends the structure
